The president of the Ibero-American Nutrition Foundation, Ángel Gil, warns about the “unacceptable” persistence of overweight in children and adults
Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Granada Ángel Gil says that we have to create a national strategy that begins in schools and accompanies families since obesity is becoming a concern.
According to the scientist's words, 70% of obese children will be the same as adults.
He was told that half of the adults and 40% of the children between the ages of six and nine were overweight, according to the Aladino study.
He said that like two years ago a Nutritional Study in the Spanish Child Population, with 1,514 children shows that the situation of overweight and obesity is maintained in the population, with children who do not meet international recommendations on the intake of certain nutrients such as vitamin D or folates vitamin B provided by vegetables.
This is not only a problem in the United States or in foreign countries, as a clear example we have Mexico whose percentage is equally worrisome: 45% of men have obesity and 43% of women, bringing with them cardiovascular problems, diabetes, among others.
The recommendations for the general population are simple: a varied, moderate diet, with not very large portions, try to use nearby products due to their lower environmental impact, cook at home and not eat many processed products.
